I'm slowly learning Aspire, and still struggling with 2.5d. Here is a 46" diameter sprocket I drew and cut from 2" foam, before blowing it off. I'd like to rust finish it, and I'm guessing Modern Masters iron paint and converter would be the way to go. My shop is in Josephville Mo., and I'm going to hang this on the wall as a conversation starter.

COOL I used to be a gear cutter. I made all the parts on a gear, including cutting the teeth. That would be soo cool on my shop wall. I would need to label it - "New Bedford Gear" - to commemorate my former life as a gear maker. Love it.

The rust paint is backordered for a couple weeks, so I sprayed some leftover red-oxide primer on it and "bolted" it to the wall. Mainly because its safest there, but we are having a little get together this weekend and I'm curious to get reactions to it. I'll rust finish it as soon as the material gets delivered.

Looking good! What did you prime it with before you used the red oxide? Those mounting bolts seem mighty big for a foam gear but help sell the 'heavy metal' concept! Mike

I tested the red oxide on some scrap, and as long as I didn't flood the surface, it didn't attack the foam, so I just misted several light coats on without a primer for the primer.

A cool trick that I learned in my prop shop days is that some model car spray paints, the tamiya brand in particular, can be sprayed directly on styrofoams without eating it.
